This architectural jewel features a welcoming parlor with fireplace, a grand dining room where an expansive breakfast is served, and elegantly appointed guest rooms with all the amenities. And did we mention the books! Designed with a literary theme in mind, each guest room features the books of the author or genre it is named after. Choose from the Zora Neale Hurston, Langston Hughes, Toni Morrison or Walter Mosley rooms. Or maybe you’re in the mood for the Romance or Poetry room. Whichever your pleasure, luxury and literature await at Akwaaba DC.
Rest and rejuvenate in the clouds. This top-floor room features a heavenly king-sized bed, a huge skylight to welcome the day, a claw-foot soaking tub right in the bedroom, and a private bath with shower. Light a candle and get swept away.
LANGSTON HUGHES ROOM
This larger-than-life room mirrors the personality of the famed Harlem Renaissance poet and author. Set against a backdrop of chocolate brown, a king-size mahogany bed, armoire and writing desk try to upstage a private balcony overlooking 16th Street with a view of the Washington Monument.
Talk about sexy! Deep red silks and velvets, a canopied queen-size bed, mood lighting and candles, and an oversize glass and tile shower in the private bath are enough to start the night off right.
Hip and modern while remaining totally comforting, this spa-like room features a queen-size bed and a private bath with shower.
Rarely are Walter Mosley’s mysteries as simple as black and white, but this room makes the most of the color scheme, while a desk with an old, portable typewriter awaits just in case you get inspired.
ZORA NEALE HURSTON
Larger than many city studio apartments, the cranberry and cream room features a king-sized antique brass bed, a pillow-tossed window seat and a glorious private bath with a Jacuzzi tub for two.
THE POETRY ROOM
The Poetry room at Akwaaba DC celebrates the playful style of writing known as Poetry. This fourth floor room is furnished with 2 queen beds, making this room perfect for a large group that appreciate separate beds.
